JAMES RUSSELL LOWELL - THE COURTIN'
Homer illustrated Lowell's The Courtin', which was printed in 1873. Notice that Homer's name is larger than Lowell's, which may have been a source of Lowell's reported dissatisfaction regarding this book, which was published while he was away in Europe. Most significantly, it is important to know that all of Winslow Homer's illustrations in this book are silhouettes.
