WINSLOW HOMER - THE BRIARWOOD PIPE 1864
This is Homer's painting The Briarwood Pipe. These soldiers have a very distinctive uniform. They are from a Zouave unit during the Civil War. Become familiar with their colors. Note that the coats are blue, but that in bright light blue may appear gray. The brightest parts of their blue shirts appear gray.
