WINSLOW HOMER - THE WEST WIND 1891
I believe this very subtle image in The West Wind is of John La Farge. Note the glasses and the same white collar which were characteristic features of La Farge. It was this painting that Philip Beam indicated was the subject of a bet between Homer and his friend La Farge. Homer would have been thinking of La Farge while he was painting it.
